White gold is commonly paired with diamond. This is because with yellow gold ring, the metal can tend to reflect a yellow tint onto the diamond, even if it is a colorless or nearly colorless stone. Most commonly you can find the karat for white gold is K18 (750) and K9 (375).

This means that only 75% for K18 and 37.5% for K9 of pure gold is used. Therefore, it is common for its purity to be lower.

White gold has a lower resale value than yellow gold, but why?

This is because white gold gets its distinctive “white” colour from the mixture of pure gold with alloy. The reason white gold has lower resale value than yellow gold is because alloy cost less but it also means the purity (karat) of your gold jewelry is diluted. However, the amount of alloy used does mean the item is more durable and scratch-resistant.

Resale value for jewelry will depend on the amount of pure gold in each item. Therefore jewelry with higher amount of pure gold will be sold at a higher value.
